Arenas for gym beasts

If you are a gym rat there are tons of options here. There are the typical fitness empires like Fitness First (2/F, Sathorn Square, 02-118-6665), Virgin Active (2/F, Empire Tower, 02 770 9772) as well as performance-based HIIT gyms like BASE Sathorn (2/F, Sathorn Thani 2, 021-099-578), a couple budget-sane options like Jetts Fitness (156 Naradhiwat Rd., 095 851 9310) and almost too many Muay Thai gyms like Legend Thai Boxing (66 Sathorn Rd., 089-795-2288) with very experienced rosters of trainers. All of these are a couple of blocks away from each other, and all in the central core by BTS Chong Nonsi or Sala Daeng. 

A bunch of great cafes

Yes, there are cafes everywhere in Bangkok, but Sathorn’s line-up goes toe-to-toe with the likes of Ari and Wang Lang—over and above simple cheap-o brew, too. Head to Kad Kokoa (Narathiwat Soi 17, 083-684-3921) a bean-to-bar cafe, for dreamy chocolate creations like the devilishly sweet Kad Meringue Ice Choc (B165). To get your nitro fix, hit up Eureka Nitro (1/F, Silom Connect, Narathiwas Rd., 092-449-9895) for nice and frothy nitro cold brews (B90) and salted egg lattes (B120).

Animal-friendly places

If you are one of those people who can’t separate yourself from your fluffy friend, Sathorn might be one of the top neighborhoods in Bangkok to take care of your pet. Like its namesake, The Running Dog Cafe (55 Sathorn Soi 10, 02-077-6144) encourages you to bring your furballs to run and play around the garden while sipping a cup of caramel macchiato (B120) blended from three different local beans. There's also the dog-friendly La Casa Nostra (22 Sathorn Soi 1 Yaek 2 (Goethe), 02-287-2402) if you feel like sipping on delicious wine all sophisticated like while your furry friend bounces around outside. 

Low-key spots

While everyone might be familiar with Silom-Sathorn main streets, there are certain cool spots that might escape your notice. In the eclectic corner of Sathorn, Suan Phlu is a perfect blend between street food, great restaurants, and drinking varieties, like Arno’s (Suan Phlu Soi 1, 02-286-3008) the perennial Top Tables finalist burger joint. For more tranquility, trek through Thanon Pan—a lush green soi leading to Myanmar Embassy—where you can escape all the hustle and bustle at Luka (64/1 Pan Rd., 02-637-8558), a handsome-looking cafe which serves proper tea and coffee concoctions with delicious light bites.
