Kad Kokoa
A chocolate-lover’s heaven has landed in Sathorn
The seed for Sathorn’s new bean-to-bar chocolate cafe, Kad Kokoa, sprouted when founders, Nuttaya and Panitchin Chunhasawatikul, fell in love with a beautiful piece of land in northern Thailand.
After studying the art of bean grading in the U.S., they began to grow cacao at their own private estate (their beans even made an appearance at the 2018 Academy of Chocolate Awards), before opening their cafe here in Bangkok.
With a distressed wooden exterior in tones of brown and duck egg blue, this leafy spot looks like it’s been plucked right out of the northern capital—in fact, the wood was indeed brought down from Chiang Mai. Inside, large windows let in plenty of light and customers can get a taste of the production process at their mini cocoa factory.
Besides from their own single origin beans, the couple source from other growers across the north, allowing them to explore the varying flavors of the region.
From Chiang Mai’s floral notes to Chantaburi’s not-too-sweet cacao, you can get a taste of their 70-percent pure hot chocolate (B140), with a perfectly chewy chocolate cookie (B75) to match, or cool down with their devilishly sweet Kad Meringue Ice Choc (B165), complete with chocolate pouring sauce.
If you’re left craving more, you can purchase chocolate bars to take home or even cocoa butter soap, so you can smell dreamy, too.
