The city has welcomed many new rooftop bars just in time for the year-end. The hip Pop@Bad (4/F Badmotel, 331/4-5 Sukhumvit Soi 55 (Thonglor), 02-712-7288. www.fb.com/popatbad) is a Andy Warhol-inspired pop-up bar on the rooftop of Thonglor's very cool Badmotel, which offers an easy-going vibe and classic booze, while the more polished Dusk Thonglor (Thonglor Soi 13. 096-860-7690, www.fb.com/duskthonglor) does tasty Thai drinking food and craft cocktails. The best part? Both are located in the heart of Thonglor and come with equally striking city views.
Joining the rooftop scene earlier this year, Baan Puen is not only a popular spot for its easygoing atmosphere and tasty Thai dishes, but also its nightly live music. If you're a fan of the good ol' Bakery Music record label, this is the place for you. You can expect to hear lots of Thai and international covers performed acoustically, along with jazz, blues and more alternative sounds. One of the partners is the guitarist in the pop band August and he pops up and jams with his friends on any given night.

The Chao Phraya River has just welcomed a new colonial-themed boutique hotel, Once Bangkok, that's run and designed by the second generation owners of the longstanding Ramada Plaza Bangkok Menam Riverside. Even better, the hotel comes with the rooftop Top Knot bar and restaurant, which offers sweeping 360-degree views of the river.
