Ibis isn’t the only global budget brand out there: Tune Hotels has now joined the low-cost club. This regional brand hotel just opened its second property in Thailand, Tune Hotel Pattaya, last month, following the first in Hat Yai (opened Dec 2011), and is now offering dirt-cheap room rates starting from B199. But wait—Tune is managed by Air Asia, so beware of hidden fees that might turn your B199 room into a B700 night. Furthermore, as a super-budget property, that rate will only get a bed and mattress (with bed sheets, though). For other amenities, you’ll need to rent them, and that includes a towel and toiletries kit (B120), 24-hour cable TV (B120), early arrival at 11am and late checkout till 2pm (B120 each), Wi-Fi internet (B50/12hrs, B80/24hrs) and even air-conditioning (B140/12hrs, B230/24hrs). It sounds a little crazy, but you don’t want to spend a whole day in your room anyway, so 12-hour air-conditioning might actually make sense. Add-on packages combining a few amenities are also available; see details on the website: www.tunehotels.com
