It’s that time of the year again. From the end of December until the end of this month, mountains in the North are turning pink as the nang phaya seua krong flowers, aka Thai sakura, bloom in the chilly weather, creating a spectacular landscape. Apart from Doi Inthanon’s peak in Chiang Mai, another top spot to see the pink blossom is Khun Sathan National Park in Nan’s Na Noi District. The road to the peak is brand new, so even your Nissan March can make the trip. But do check with the national park office for a precise bloom forecast prior to your visit so you won’t miss out. (Last year, the flowers blossomed unusually late, around the end of Jan.) There are four bungalows in the park, as well as limited space for camping available, so advanced booking is highly recommended for those looking for a longer stay. Contact Khun Sathan National Park 054-701-121, 054-305-585, 087-173-9549 or the TAT Phrae 054-521-118/127. www.easternlanna.org.
