A reminder that those whose Japan trip takes in a visit to earthquake-affected prefectures in the Tohoku region (Miyagi, Fukushima and Iwate) will be entitled to waive their visa fees (normally B1,120). Now is probably not a great time to visit, unless you seriously like snow, but in April, Sendai, Miyagi’s capital city, is one of the best places to see the famous cherry blossoms. And while you’re waiting and planning your trip, do download the free Lonely Planet Tohoku travel guide (http://tiny.cc/LPtohoku), offered as part of the general effort to bring back tourists to the region.
