Architect Duangrit Bunnag has teamed up with the design-loving investor behind Casa de la Flora (in Khaolak). The result is the cutting-edge, modernist The Naka Phuket (1/18,20 Moo 6, Kamala, Kathu, Phuket, 076-337-999, www.thenakaphuket.com). Unveiled last month on a cliff of Kamala Bay, it is a member of Design Hotels, a group of design hotels worldwide, along with its sister Casa de la Flora (designed by VasLab’s Vasu Viratsilp). Duangrit’s signature-style is everywhere: sharp-edged steel, raw cement and natural woods combined in an airy space with floor-to-ceiling windows showing 180-degree sea views. Villas range from a 205-sq-meter one-bedroom to a 526-sq-meter three-bedroom; all of which have their own pool. There are also three restaurants, a spa and chapel for private weddings. The photos look really nice but we’ll update you again once we have a chance to visit. They have a selection of introductory rates such as B12,132 per night for an ocean view pool villa with breakfast, which is 45% cheaper than rack rates, exclusive of taxes and service charges.
