Known as a place for those trying to live the high life, Phloen Chit is one of the best neighborhoods in the city for travelers who want to see everything the heart of Bangkok has to offer.

You can hardly get any closer to the city center than Phloen Chit (sometimes written as Phloenchit), which makes it an uber popular choice for leisure and business travelers—or better yet, people who mix both. It’s also known as an ideal spot for those looking to live the high life, with plenty of luxury condos, restaurants and malls.

Shopping

Phloen Chit is one of the city’s best starting locations for shopping during the day or night, with gleaming high-rise shopping malls juxtaposed against quaint night markets, most of which are just a short walk or cab ride away. Head to Central Embassy just a few minutes from Phloen Chit BTS to peruse luxury shops from most of the major brands or head up to Open House on the sixth floor—a massive multifunctional space that includes a library, co-working area, theater, and art shop with crafts made by local designers. Just a few stops down on the train at Siam BTS is where you’ll find Bangkok’s shopping Mecca, with five of the country’s largest malls—Central World, Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, and MBK—all within walking distance.

Rest & Relax

Phloen Chit is almost dead center in the heart of the city’s central business district and is no more than a few BTS stops away from most of the downtown action Bangkok has to offer. If central access to the city is a priority, DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Phloenchit might be your best bang-for-the-baht option. It’s within throwing distance of the main road and Phloen Chit BTS station, includes conference rooms (if you are here on business), a fitness center, lightning fast WiFi, outdoor pool to unwind, and a concierge. King Deluxe rooms start at B4,342/night, and include comfy beds with 250-thread count linens, blackout curtains, and ample desk space if you have to do some keyboard crunching on your trip. You can boost this up to an executive suite for B8,323/night if you want more roomy digs.

Eats

More than shopping options, the area is a hotbed of quality cafes and restaurants (you could seriously spend entire days hopping from venue to venue in this part of town). Tucked in Woodbury Common on Ruamrudee just a few minutes away from DoubleTree, Nick is a trendy design forward, open-early spot for breakfasters in Ploen Chit—often typing away on their computers. For something on the fancier side in the evening, Sexy Cow BKK has long been a carnivore’s haven, boasting its own purpose-built coal-fired grill that they’ve named “Charzilla”, used for everything from seafood, to steaks and burgers. One of Bangkok’s best Italian restaurants, Lenzi Tuscan Kitchen, is a short walk from the BTS station. Here, you can enjoy the charismatic chef Francesco Lenzi, who works the room offering recommendations and doling out the occasional sample. For sky-high Spanish food, head to Rico, which sits on the sixth floor of Central Embassy offering great city views and moorish tapas bites.

Nightlife

One of the great things about this area is you are kind of sandwiched in between two of Bangkok’s best nightlife areas. Soi 11 is always a solid bet, with names like Old German Beer House and Hemingway’s among the legendary nightlife enclaves that have called the street home for years. You’re also just a few minutes away from Mod Kaew, one of the city’s most popular natural wine bars that turns the stuffy conventions of wine drinking on its head—the phrase “mod kaew” is Thai for “bottoms up.” Open Bar at DoubleTree by Hilton Phloenchit is going to be your closest bet and the easiest to relax at after a busy day. Make sure to check out the make-your-own mojito station!

Take the hassle out of planning your next stay in central Bangkok. DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Phloenchit is about as close to the action—both for work and play—as you can get in this city. Check out their website for more details.
