Starbucks makes big move on Northern Thailand's coffee culture
Chiang Mai gets a Lanna-style Starbucks.
Chiang Mai might be Thailand’s coffee capital, and many travelers venturing up North wouldn't conceive of stepping inside a Starbucks instead of trusted names like Ristr8to or Akha Ama, but here's something that might change their minds.
An eye-catching Lanna-style Starbucks has just opened at Kad Farang Mall (225 Moo 13, Chiang Mai-Hod Rd., 053-430-552, www.kadfarangvillage.com).
Easily spotted from its bold white facade and high-pitched, tiled roof, the venue's interior is equally resplendent, from the woven bamboo ceilings down to the rustic wooden floorboards. The walls are also covered in murals and carvings depicting traditional Northern culture.
Sadly, the beverage menu isn't any different from other Starbucks outlets, but at least you you'll score some good photos before dropping by the cool new Ristr8to Lab.
