It comes with its own 20,000-sq-meter "private ocean."

While we wait for the opening of The Bangkok Edition hotel (due sometime in 2017, we're told), you can get a sense for what may be in store at The Sanya Edition (www.editionhotels.com/sanya).

Located on the southernmost tip of Hainan Island, just off the coast of Southern China, this Ian Schrager-designed behemoth takes a very tropical route that’s topped off with a “private ocean”—a 20,000-sq-meter pool filled with 10 million gallons of seawater.

If the 500 guestrooms in the horseshoe-shaped main building (starting from CNY1,888 [B9,632]) aren’t your turf, they also offer 17 private villas (from CNY4,388 [B22,386]) sitting in terraced hills overlooking the pool.

On top of a spa and five on-site restaurants, amenities include a rock climbing wall and bumper car track, while the souvenir shop is curated by Ullens Center for Contemporary Art Beijing and Steven Giles of Miami Edition.
