Thai Airways’ low-cost sister Thai Smile (www.thaismileair.com) just launched direct flights to Kolkata in eastern India.

The West Bengal capital’s British architecture speaks of its colonial past, while it’s proximity to Bangladesh results in a unique blend of cultures.

As a major commercial port, the metropolis has a fast-growing economy and is regarded as the cultural capital of India thanks to its eclectic art and literature scene. It is also home to Mother House, the headquarters of Mother Teresa’s charity, where her tomb can now be found.

Starting from Mar 31, Bangkok-Kolkata flights will run on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, costing from around B7,500 return.
