PATTAYA

The Monttra

The Monttra (themonttra.com) proves that Pattaya hotels don’t always need to feel like tower blocks. Located next to the Royal Varuna Yacht Club on the leafy Phra Tumnak Hill, this all-suite property with private beach access boasts an exclusive island resort feel thanks to 23 suites that look out over nearby Koh Larn and put the emphasis on open space. Other notable features include a beachside pool, tai chi classes and even a soap concierge.

KANCHANABURI

XFloat Cabins at X2 River Kwai

X2 River Kwai (x2resorts.com/resorts/river-kwai) has just unveiled six brand new industrial-chic floating cabins—and there's not a bamboo raft in sight. Perched on the surface of the Kwai Noi River, the new 65-sq-meter XFloat Cabins are made from environmentally-friendly rubberwood boards and come with fish tank-style floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the calm Kanchanaburi countryside. An upper deck (dubbed the "moon deck") allows you to make the most of the clear, starry sky. Despite being on the water, the cabins aren't short on quality and share the same amenities as their land counterparts, including luxury bathtub, Bose soundsystem, Wi-Fi and premium king bed. The six floating cabins join the resort's existing eight cabins.

A 2-night stay from Feb 13-15 in an XFloat Cabin costs B26,000

HUA HIN

Sofitel So Hua Hin

Accor Hotels group’s grandiose Hotel de la Paix Hua Hin, designed by famous architect Duangrit Bunnag (see our list of awesome design hotels), has been revamped and rebranded as Sofitel So Hua Hin. Set to reopen this Sunday (Jan 31), the hotel’s rooms are now themed as either SO Arty or SO Nature, with the latter coming with a four-poster wooden bed. There are three new F&B venues, too: White Oven, a restaurant serving Thai and international dishes; Hi-SO, a rooftop bar boasting panoramic views of Hua Hin’s coastline; and Beach Society, a beach club that will host monthly parties.

HUA HIN

Loligo Resort Hua Hin

Loligo Resort Hua Hin (www.loligoresort.com, 032-536-777) is next door to—and managed by the same team as—Let’s Sea Hua Hin. The rooms are huge given the prices (40-58-sq-meters). The style is refreshingly old-school, with nods to Rama 7’s adorable summer palace. It’s not on the beach but it’s a one-minute walk away. And it’s got its very own prohibition-era-style bar. Hot tip: the mini suites are just a few hundred baht more expensive than the standard room rate, which starts around B2,700.

A 2-night stay from Feb 13-15 in a Deluxe Balcony Room costs B6,585
