Taking over a pristine private island in the Koh Rong archipelago, Alila Villas Koh Russey is an ultra-luxe all-villa establishment sitting just off the coast of mainland Cambodia.

A total of 50 pavilions and 13 villas each come with either garden or beach views, starting at B12,296 per night. Their cubic, geometric design draws from the patterns of traditional Khmer krama cloth, with flat roofs and vertical lines intended to allow the surrounding landscaped gardens and tropical nature to shine.

Rooms come in soft whites and earthy browns, with large bay windows, double sinks and free-standing bathtubs. Hardwood floors, dark stone and steel combine with soft materials and local craftsmanship for a charming, elegant, minimal look.

Dining includes a beach shack on the resort's shorefront, where you can enjoy juicy grilled catch-of-the-day, and the poolside restaurant Horizon, serving French-leaning international fare. Other facilities include Spa Alila, an infinity pool and a fitness center.

To explore beyond the resort, there are tour packages on offer that range from hidden temple hopping to trekking at nearby Bokor National Park.

To reach the island, the combined car and shuttleboat ride from Sihanoukville Airport takes only around 20 minutes.
