So long as it’s done properly and enjoyed alongside a decent sweet treat, good coffee needn’t be fancy—a belief that Chiang Mai’s new minimalist cafe Three Nakhanik appears to hold dear.

Inside the white-washed shop, you can tell just from the aromatic smell in the air that coffee is the main play and, although they may be adept at coffee art, there’s no messing with fancy creams or syrups in their signature brews.

At the cafe’s center, the long counter bar is the heart of all the action: coffee dripping (B160), cold brewing (B85) and filtering (B85-B150), using beans sourced from far-flung corners of the globe, including Ethiopia (said to have melon and citrus tastes), Brazil, Kenya and Denmark (tangy with ripe, fruity undertones).

For something to munch on, go for the scrumptious bacon and cheese scone (B75), or the banana cake (B65), which oozes with a generous cream cheese center.
