The Festival of the Ages, a historical costume parade in Kyoto, features performers decked out in garb from Japan's various eras.

The Jidai Matsuri festival (Festival of the Ages) will happen October 22 in Kyoto.

The festivities include historical reanactments and a large scale parade. The day begins early and portable shrines (representing Japanese emperors Kanmu and Komei) are delivered to the Old Imperial Palace. Later, there's a two-kilometer costume parade featuring around 2,000 performers. People dress in outfits from different historical periods such as the Meiji era.

While in Kyoto, stay at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto, which has rooms from JPY46,000 (S$580).
