Love it or hate it, Koh Pha Ngan will have its own airport very soon. According to the Bangkok Post, Kan Air (www.kanairlines.com), the Chiang Mai-based airline that normally flies its super-small fleet to Pai, Mae hong Son, Nan, Phitsanuloke and Kon Kaen, is spending B700 million to build a 1.1-km runway in the northern part of the island, aiming to operate 80-minute flights from Bangkok next year. That’s nothing when you consider that right now you need to take a 30 to 45-minute speedboat from either Chumphon or Koh Samui. It might be great news for upscale travelers who wish to experience the Full Moon Party and Pha Ngan’s clear waters, but to be honest, we think some destinations are better kept difficult to get to—and Pha Ngan is already becoming spoiled as it is.
