Khon Kaen's new agro-shop sells tasty local produce—juices, strawberries, and addictive laab-flavor cricket crackers.
We’ve found a shop in Khon Kaen selling tasty local produce—juices, strawberries, and addictive laab-flavor cricket crackers—most of it cute enough to make great souvenirs.
And design geeks will be all over its stunning architecture, courtesy of of local architect firm S Pace Studio. Agro Outlet (097-214-1209, www.fb.com/agrooutletkku) is not your average OTOP or farmers’ outlet.
Located right in Khon Kaen University, the store takes its design cues from the university’s logo featuring Phra That Phanom, Isaan’s most revered pagoda. The shop is part of the university’s Faculty of Agriculture and offers lots of local food including low-cholesterol eggs, Gai Si Mok (a mixed breed of black and local chicken) and Khao Klong Sam Si, the university’s famous three-color organic rice.
You can also find more products from farmers around Khon Kaen and other Isaan provinces such as herbal soaps.
