Chiang Mai's new open-air Japanese food court
Hako Town arrives up North.
Chiang Mai just welcomed a new Japanese-themed community mall complete with all the Nippon signifiers like red cochins hanging on bamboo poles, dry-mulched roads and walkways, and wooden structures with curved eaves.
Located right by the Ping River, Hako Town (www.fb.com/hakotownchiangmai) is home to an array of reasonably-priced Japanese-style street-stalls and restaurants.
Like its Bangkok sister, and also serves as an event venue for Japanese fairs, flea markets and outdoor concerts.
While you’re there, stop by the Maru Sembei stall for some crispy ebi sembei (B38), or if you’re looking for something light and sweet, stop by one of the dessert stalls for a yoghurt-based ice cream (B49).
The mall opens it’s doors from 4-10pm on Mon-Thu and 11am-10pm on Friday-Sunday.
