4 art events to check out in Chiang Mai this June
Chiang Mai’s art scene just goes from strength to strength, as evident from the growing number of exhibitions.
The elegant colonial-style boutique resort 137 Pillars House (053-247-788, www137pillarhouse.com) is currently hosting an oil painting exhibition titled “Beauty Revealed” by well-respected Thai artist Ajarn Sontorn Suwanhem through Jun 30. The exhibition is open for viewing from 9am-10pm daily. For accommodation at the 137 Pillar House, rates start from B9,600 for a 70-sq-meter suite, including breakfast, beers from the minibar and Wi-Fi.

H Gallery (near the Four Seasons Resort, 085-021-5508, www.hgallerybkk.com) is hosting an exhibition of Isaan life-inspired paintings by Chulalongkorn-graduate Mitree Parahom, originally from the Northeastern province of Si Saket. Colorfully portraying upcountry farmers and their relationships with the land, the exhibition is open for viewing on Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm, through June 28.

Another gallery you should visit is Gallery Seescape (086-114-2845, tinyurl.com/kc7udzu) on Nimmanhemin Road Soi 17, which is showcasing “The Dialog of an Unsound Mind,” depicting abstract emotional experiences, by Voraprada V., through Jun 14.
For accommodation, check out the new 99 The Gallery Hotel (053-326-338, www.99thegalleryhotel.com), set in Chiang Mai’s city center in front of Wat Pra Singh. Inspired by Lanna art, the boutique hotel also boasts a gallery displaying paintings, Buddha images and retro items. Rates are B4,300 for a suite, B2,600 for a deluxe room and B1,800 for a superior room.
