Explore Myanmar by steam train
There's now a quaint way to see the Mandalay countryside
Next time you're traipsing through the temples of Bagan, save a day for a quaint little way to explore the region. Steam Locomotive Tours has launched a 55km vintage steam-train tour through the Mandalay region from Bagan to Kyaukpadaung. Built in England in the 1940s, the train runs only on Tuesdays at 8am, and picks up passengers at the Bagan station. Upon arrival at Kyaukpadaung, you will be able to visit a small village before going to Mt. Popa, a volcano which is also a popular pilgrimage site. Tickets for the tour cost about $260, which includes breakfast and lunch.
