The Core Hotel (053-218-163/4, 086-363-2105, www.fb.com/thecorehotelchiangmai) takes much of its inspiration from local craft work, specifically indigo tie-dye.

Settled on Huay Kaew Road, on the way to Chiang Mai Zoo and Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, the hotel’s white, geometric cut-out facade hides a cozy resort-like interior of wood and white that’s complemented by splashes of indigo and dangling ferns.

The 56 rooms range from deluxe (B2,400) and triple (B3,000) up to family-size (B5,000), with on-site facilities including a fitness center and pool. There’s also free bike rental.

The highlight may well be the rooftop restaurant where you can take in the stunning views of Doi Suthep over breakfast and dinner. The food is mainly Thai central favorites with some Chiang Mai specialties like pork crackling with green chili relish.
