Remote Easter Island plays host to the upcoming Tapati Festival
For the experience of a lifetime, celebrate Easter Island's Tapati Festival 2014 with the Rapa Nui people.
The travel experience group Explora are offering adventurous travelers the opportunity to celebrate Polynesian festival Tapati 2014, on far-flung Easter Island, while the festivities take place from 1 to 15 February.
Each year during Tapati the local Rapa Nui people celebrate their little-known culture and traditional customs in a party that welcomes travelers to join the island residents.
See the islanders compete in activities and events, like none you've seen before, such as Haka Pei, in which men tied to banana tree trunks jump off the side of a hill at full-speed. The celebrations culminate in a Farándula (parade) with participants in local Rapa Nui costume.
The programme, which has been set up to sustain this tradition and support the local people, includes accommodation, transfers, food and daily activities with knowledgable and bilingual guides.
The cost depends on the number of days you choose to stay, ranging from USD 2,415 ($3017) per person (double room, two sharing) for three nights, to USD 5,832 ($7285) per person (double room, two sharing) for eight nights.
