Hua Hin’s latest restaurant comes in the form of a giant black Thai pavilion right beside the beach serving Thai-Western fusion.

Baan Dum (089-919-9276, www.fb.com/Baandum) lures people away from other hot new Hua Hin openings like Seen Space and Khao Takiab thanks to a vast lawn complete with laidback seating overlooking the water and live jazz music.

Dishes here relate to the color of the house—black. That means squid-ink aplenty in dishes like pla muek khai pad nam pla (fried-egg squid marinated with fish sauce, B250) and Pizza Baan Dum (squid ink dough topped with seafood, B280). They also serve fresh seafood starting from B800-900 per kilogram.

Save room for their dessert like black sesame cake (B65 per piece, B100 for two pieces) and chao guay (black jelly smoothie topped with red sugar, B60).
