Luxury resort and spa Anantara Angkor opened this month in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa opened this month in Siem Reap, after taking over ownership of the Sothea Resort and transforming the property, now offering a luxury boutique stay that's within easy reach of Angkor Wat and the surrounding ruins.

Incorporating ancient Khmer traditions with modern luxury, the resort shows its Khmer cultural influences, through the courtyard pool that's inspired by an ancient royal bathing pool, carved stone pillars, and wooden carvings that depict Cambodia's history. From an aerial view, the resort is designed to resemble Angkor Wat, while from ground-level it resembles a Khmer villa.

Each of the 39 contemporary Cambodian style rooms and suites also have the luxury of a balcony overlooking the courtyard pool.

The salt-water pool, Anantara Spa and roof-top yoga will ensure a rejuvenating stay, but those looking for a cultural experience can take part in Khmer cooking classes and market tours, inbetween exploring the surrounding area.

A sunrise breakfast, lunch menu and pool-side bites are offered from The Gallery restaurant, while The Sothea is the setting  for an evening meal with the addition of dance and music performances.

For a stay of two nights or more, between now and December 2014, rates start from USD294 ($367) per night.
