This November, Aman Kyoto unveiled its stunning secluded hideaway, where guests are encouraged to treat themselves to “shinrin-yoku”—the medicine of simply being in the forest. Set beside a river amid the trees, the hotel’s 24 rooms (from B53,200 for Nara garden view, or B90,250 for Hotaru forest and river view) are accessed via whimsical, moss-covered pathways and pay homage to the minimalist wood furnishings of traditional ryokan inns. There are even natural onsen bathing facilities. The property is located just 20 minutes’ walk from the UNESCO World Heritage site Kinkaku-Ji temple (the Zen Buddhist “Golden Pavilion”). aman.com/resorts/aman-kyoto
