Though it recently announced an B8.4 billion loss in the first half of 2013, THAI Airways (www.thaiairways.com) hasn’t stopped opening new routes. But instead of flying to faraway lands, the national carrier is opting for closer destinations in Asia. From Oct 27, THAI Smile, THAI’s sister airline, will start direct flights from Bangkok to China’s historic city of Chongqing, a base to visit attractions like the stunning Three Gorges and Three Natural Bridges. Also, taking advantage of Japan’s new visa-free measures for Thais, the airline will fly to Sendai, the largest city in Tohoku region, famed for its ancient palaces and sakura trees (in blossom April-May). It’s time to plan that next big trip!
