Attention all attention-seekers.
This beautiful mansion close to the famous Thalang Road may have once been abandoned, but it has now been lovingly restored to its former Sino-Portuguese glory. Throw on your Thai traditional dress, step inside this historic house and strike a pose like you’re in a period drama—voila!
98 Krabi Rd., Phuket, 076-211-167. Open Mon-Sat 9am-4.30pm
Millennial pink’s enduring grip on the fashion world may be starting to slip, but that doesn’t seem to deter the multitudes of snap-happy tourists who still flock to this iconic pink cafe for an all-important ice-cream selfie. Be sure to try out their unique locally-inspired creations, like the O-Aew (clear jelly served with red beans and ice cream, B75), the crispy coconut crepe (B75), and the Bi-co-moi (B85), with its ultra-glutinous coconut milk rice.
Rommanee Soi 16, Thalang Rd., Phuket Town, 076-510-888. Open Tue-Thu 11am-6pm; Fri-Sun 11am-9:30pm
Housing over 100 3D installations and sculptures, and an equal number of selfie opportunities, this museum is practically made for Instagram. As the name suggests, here you can pretend you’re at the mercy of a giant crocodile or stand side by side with Mona Lisa thanks to trompe-l’oeil—a special art technique used to trick the eye (or camera) with three-dimensional perspectival illusions. Bring your friends and nail those captions to become instant social media stars.
130/1 Phang Nga Rd., Taladyai, 076-212-806. Open daily 10am-7pm (last admission 6pm)
With its airy atmosphere, large outdoor garden space, hanging orchids, and a menu featuring creative southern Thai dishes, this spot is not only ideal for a selfie or two but also that crucial envy-inducing food flick. Expect internationally-inflected Thai cuisine like the "Foie Gras Thai Style" served with sweet-and-tangy tamarind dip on betel leaves with edamame salsa and cashew nuts.
50/2 Takuapa Rd., Talat Nuea, 087-888-6990. Open daily 5-11pm
Recently unveiled in early September, this picturesque new mall seeks to emanate the grandeur of Trayastrimsa—Buddhist heaven—through its gigantic floor-to-ceiling sculptures of mythical beasts, spanning Ramayana to the Enchanted Garden. At one end of the building lies “Tales of Thailand,” where cultural charms from all four regions are conjured up, including a water market-like experience.
Central Phuket, Vichitsongkram Rd., Phuket. Open daily 10:30am-10pm
Central Group is aiming to help turn Phuket into one of the world’s premier travel destinations – on par with the likes of French Riviera, Miami and Hawaii. Recently, it unveiled Central Phuket, a 20-billion-baht development comprised of a shopping center, world-class tourist attractions, international-caliber convention halls and elite hotel. The project aims to work alongside the local government’s plan to turn Phuket into a smart city.
Central Phuket boasts several key features. First are several world-class attractions, including a 3D adventure park using virtual reality tech. There’s also “Tales of Thailand”, one of the region’s largest indoor markets. Finally, there is Aquaria, a cutting-edge aquarium to open in January 2019. In addition, the shopping mall portion of the space will boast an array of luxury stores that were previously unavailable in the area.
