5 new low-key themed hotels to check out in Hua Hin
The beach town has welcomed new openings especially for cyclists, shutterbugs, musos and more.
My Way Hua Hin Music Hotel (www.mywayhuahin.com) takes its music theme seriously: each room is named after music chords and notes, and decorated in dedication to different music legends, from Elvis and The Beatles to Santana and the Rolling Stones. Expect music-related decor items such as saxophone lamps, music-print pillow shams and even shelves made from musical instruments. Speaking of instruments, all rooms also come with at least one (ukeleles, acoustic and electric guitars and even pianos) available for you to play at your own leisure. Located 250 meters from the beach, the hotel also comes with facilities such as a pool, fully-equipped gym, restaurant and coffee shop. Regular rates start at approximately B1,250 but through Oct 31, the hotel is offering a deal where if you book your stay through Facebook, you get 20-percent off. In order to do this, you'll have to state your full name, number of people who will be staying at the hotel, dates of stay and phone number through Facebook message (ow.ly/R4OIY). Note: this deal isn't valid during holidays and does not include breakfast.
Here's a hostel snap-happy travelers to Hua Hin might like to check-in to. Open just two months ago, the ten-room, monochromatic Remix Photo House (www.remixphotohouse.com) reflects owner Anuchai Secharunputong’s love for photography. Here, bathrooms are designed to imitate dark rooms and vintage film cameras are on display throughout. Though beachfront rooms aren’t available, there are seaview rooms that start at B3,000 and street view rooms that start at B1,500.
The Bike Loft (www.thebikelofthotel.com) aims to be the perfect stop off for cyclists in the middle of their bike tour. Decked out in artwork made from real bicycle parts, this industrial-style hostel is a cyclist's haven. Not only do they allow guests to bring their prized wheels into their rooms with them, they're also located uphill above an ideal bike path. The two-story compound comes with two different price points: rooms upstairs cost B1,500 per night, while downstairs is B1,700 per night. Every loft-like room is decorated differently, either with bike-themed vibrant mural paintings, bicycle-part art or canvas paintings. The hostel also boasts a saltwater pool and a restaurant serving Thai and Western dishes. Wood-fired pizza is in th epipeline.
Not long ago, Ari's The Yard Hostel introduced a new sustainable hostel concept--buildings made from shipping containers. Now, not too far from the city thre's another place that has adopted a similar concept. Hua Hin in Boxes is a boutique resort decked in brightly-colored recycled shipping containers surrounding a communal swimming pool, each container serving as one spacious bedroom. There are 10 rooms in total, all equipped with air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi. Located in central Hua Hin, the resort is just 1km away from the beach and the food market. Apart from its unique concept, the hotel won’t suck up your life savings, either. If you book directly through them you’ll get the lowest rates, where rooms will cost B1,000 per night Mon-Thu and B1,300 per night on weekends, inclusive of breakfast for two. There are also motorbikes for rent at the hotel for B300 a day. For more information and reservations, visit ow.ly/O7kYY.
With only nine rooms, new boutique hotel The Restro boasts a retro-style interior with a bright, playful decor, such as the faux animal-skin rug in the bedrooms and retouched thrift-store furniture. Prices per room vary by type and season, but range from B2,500-3,200 inclusive of breakfast. For more information, visit www.fb.com/therestrohotel.
