Hoomans are welcome too

Calling all pawrents, the annual Pet Expo, Singapore's largest pet fair, is set to roll around in the month of April once again. For its sixth rendition held at Singapore Expo Hall 7 from Apr 12-14, the convention will see about 90 local and regional vendors setting up stalls over at the 6,500 sqm space.

The spotlight falls on wellness this year, with three wellness therapy events jam-packed into the three-day schedule due to the growing demand on pet health. At Game on with Animal Rehabilitation, therapeutic exercises that combine balance, strength, endurance, and more help with injury recovery and prevention for the injured or as palliative care.

Alternative therapy promoting health in dogs while strengthening the human-canine bond are held at Therapeutic Massages for Dogs, or for something non-invasive, address your furry companion’s physical, emotional and behavioural concerns with holistic therapy aimed at balancing the mind and body at BodyTalk. Free basic check ups for your pets are also offered by AVA on-site as part of the movement to build the awareness around pet health management.

Ever wanted to teach your dogs to dance? Owners with energetic companions can enrol their furkids in K9 Sports, where they can opt to learn simple dance moves with their dogs that’s suitable even for creatures with four left paws, or alternatively, basic jumper courses to teach their old dogs some new tricks.

And making its mark as the first charity dog grooming event of its kind in Singapore, non-profit fundraising event Fur4Hope organised by the Animal Arts Academy and Pet Lovers Centre will be offering grooming services such as haircuts, nail care and hair extensions (yes, for your doggos!) for just $5-$20. On top of a great grooming deal, 100% of the proceeds go to participating dog shelters and rehoming partners, so pooches can get bomb fur’dos while taking part in a noble cause.

There will also be a battle of guppies and betta fishes to vie for the crown of the bowl at the Guppy Challenge 2019 and the 13th National Betta Competition 2019. And of course, cat/dog competitions and pageants that will determine the best behaved, best groomed and most talented of the bunch will be held too.

For non-owners, think you’re ready to commit to caring for a furbaby of your own? Drop by for AVA’s adoption drive and you might just leave with a brand new addition to your family. And remember, #AdoptNotShop.
