From Trump-Kim to Crazy Rich Asians

2018 has been a wild year, and it isn't even over yet. From influencer scandals to political backstabbing, to Penal Code controversy and Hollywood hubbub, the year has been packed with news and headlines that border on ridiculous—especially to an outsider looking in. (No wonder the rest of the world thinks we’re a strange totalitarian state with pirate beginnings.)

Seems like a waste, then, not to turn some of those kooky headlines into comedy gold. And so a brand new comedy show has. Happening on Nov 9, The Junk Show is a one-night-only, live talk show-style event that will take a look back at Singapore’s top 2018 headlines, with a local comedy twist.

Presented by the folks behind satirical magazine Junk Asia (also known as the founders of the tongue-in-cheek Mitchell Lin Guide), the show will be hosted by comedian and social media personality Hirzi Zulkiflie. Expect candid conversations and casual stand-up for the night. In the style of talk shows like The Tonight Show, Hirzi will conduct interviews with bigwigs from our local entertainment scene—like drag queen Becca D’Bus, Anita Kapoor, and Tan Kheng Hua and Selena Tan of (renewed) Crazy Rich Asians fame (because obviously the film is on the table). The big question of the night: Was 2018 the year of Singapore power? Defining events like the Trump-Kim summit and CRA suggest so, but you’ll have to watch for yourself to find out.

Only two shows are available, and the ticket price includes dinner from OverEasy. If you like a healthy mix of culture, humour, and sardonic commentary, you know what to do.

The Junk Show happens Nov 9, 6pm and 9pm, at OverEasy Orchard. Tickets and more information here.
