Who can resist freshly-baked bread and pretty tarts?

When you're craving freshly-baked bread, pretty tarts or dainty pastries, here are the best bakeries in Singapore.

Artisan Boulangerie Company

Also known as ABC, this French bakery and sit-down brunch spot is run by Eran Mayer who bakes pastries like apple turnover, vanilla twists and loaves of bread with cinnamon. There's even a large, rustic Killiney loaf.

Asanoya Bakery

This Japanese bakery takes cues from traditional European techniques of baking bread and pastries. This is a great place for those who like soft, fluffy and slightly sweet Japanese-style breads stuffed with items like ham and cheese.

Baker & Cook

This rapidly expanding bakery just opened its fourth outlet in Opera Estate, but the flaghip in Hillcrest is still going strong. The New Zealand bakery specializes in all sorts of sourdough breads, as well as pastries like croissants and cakes. The place also has an all-day brunch menu if you're looking for a place to sit down.

Becasse

Famed Australian brand, Becasse, has opened a full-fledged bakery and restaurant. While the restaurant has plates of tartare and seafood, the focus is still on the freshly-baked breads, pastries and dessert cakes. Plus, the airy black-and-white space is super pretty.

Bread & Hearth

This industrial space on Keong Saik churns out hearty loafs made in the traditional European style of using levain. There are both traditional and fusion loafs like matcha orange on offer here.

Crown Bakery

This Bukit Timah bakery does 45 different types of organic breads, viennoiseries and other baked snacks. The kitchen is under the care of Kevin Chang, who's done stints at both Maison Kayser and New York's Iris Bakery.

Dolcetto by Basilico

Baked by the chefs of The Regent Hotel's Italian restaurant, Basilico, this place does great ciabatta and focaccia. It's also got an extensive range of Italian cakes and pastries, as well as warm paninis for a quick lunch.

Maison Kayser

French pastry master Eric Kayser is known to infuse international flavors into traditional French pastries. While his croissants are the star of the show, you can find pasties like pain aux yuzu and lots of varieties of bread.

Pantler

The CBD bakery is located on the hip Telok Ayer. It's got pretty pastries like croissants, as well as the signature pate de fruits and fruit tarts.

Tiong Bahru Bakery

This one is a no-brainer. With a fourth-generation baker in the kitchen, the selection includes French breads and pastries. The award-winning croissants are a must-have but we actually prefer their delightful and downright decadent and buttery kouign amman, a spiral croissant-like creation stuffed with chocolate or savory hams and mustard.
