Ahead of this week’s Hostess Club Bangkok (Feb 19-20), here are four styles inspired by four of the indie festival’s main acts.

Bright and Bold

There’s no such thing as overdressing at a music festival. If you need inspiration, look no further than Tune-Yards. The genre-hoping US duo of Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner released their third studio album, Nikki Nack, last year which combined folk-pop with clapalong Afrobeat. Inspired by the band’s energetic live show, go for a bright and colorful dress, graphic T-shirt or printed leggings—and be sure to match it with a pair of Chuck Taylor Converse All Stars.

Vintage Darling

The headliner of the festival’s first day, Belle & Sebastian are a Scottish indiepop band that seem to have been around forever, led by main singer-songwriter Stuart Murdoch. The cheerful tunes of their ninth studio album, Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance, evoke images of girls dancing in 60s-inspired floral dresses, as does the frontman’s musical film debut of last year, the retro-tastic God Help the Girl. While the era of the film is not entirely clear, lead actress Emily Browning’s vintage costumes are a definite throwback to the 60s and 70s. To get the look, pick up a white shirt and tuck it into high-waisted shorts, or go bold with a floral dress matched midbrown leather oxford pump. Other key items are a black beret hat and either red or orange lipstick.

Rock Swagger

Named one of NME’s bands to watch back in 2013, Temples are a British psych-rock four-piece who released their debut album, Sun Structure, to much hype back in Feb 2014. Also last year, frontman James Bagshaw featured as part of YSL’s music project, appearing in a line of very stylish, very glammed-up promo shots for the brand. Do as James does and go black, with either a long- or shortsleeved T-shirt, skinny jeans and a leather biker jacket. Step things up with a bit of fur. Forget sneakers, too, and go with Oxfords or boots instead.

Teenage Riot

Many fans are still reeling over the break-up of New York art-rock band Sonic Youth a couple of years ago. Providing some comfort is the fact that leading man Thurston Moore is arguably releasing some of his finest material as part of The Thurston Moore Band. Bangkokians can expect to hear plenty of cuts from his latest album, The Best Day, which just came out, but we’re hoping for some classic SY tracks from late 80s’ albums Daydream Nation and Goo, too. The latter’s cover, with its black-and-white Raymond Pettibon illustration, has become an iconic rock tee in its own right, spawning endless counterfeit versions and parodies. With that in mind, we say go for a white tee with black graphics, a pair of good ol’ blue jeans and white Jack Purcell Converse sneakers. Don’t forget the shades, either.
