3 Singaporean design firms to see at Maison & Objet Asia
The super luxurious design trade show is open to the public on Mar 13. It's not cheap, but it's still worth a patriotic oggle.
Uber-luxe design and furnishings trade show Maison & Objet (M&O) might hail from France, but the Asian edition (now in its second year) makes sure that brands, designers and furniture makers from around the region are well-represented—in fact, a quarter of them are Asian. Here are three exhibitors from Singapore at M&O Asia that we think you should check out.
This Singapore-based home decor brand comprises a team of Singaporean and French designers. We love their collection of gorgeous East-meets-West furniture and lifestyle accessories, in particular the Guimar bedside table (made of marble, oak and brass), the Iris coffee table that's handmade and inlaid with horn tiles and the Marceau solid oak rocking chair (pictured above). Akar de Nissim's showroom is at 24C Duxton Hill, 6222-7517, www.akardenissim.com.
You probably know them from the tableware set that your mother brought home because they were on sale at Metro or Robinsons. This time, local dessert chef Janice Wong of 2am Dessert Bar has collaborated with them and Swarovski on a line of plates and dessert platters that are accented with crystals, named “Volupte”. It's one of the five new collections they are showing. We also love the two "Urban" collections. If you're inspired to do a spot of shopping, you can also go to their store at Metro, #01-14 The Centrepoint, 176 Orchard Rd, 6788-3322.
Having worked with big names like Ligne Roset, Saazs and Bolia on various furniture and homeware projects, this Singapore-based tri-national design collective's latest collaboration is with eco-design pioneer Biobu. It's a range of marine-inspired sand toys made out of environmentally-friendlier bamboo fibre, called "Animo". Nothing to buy, but you can check out their installation at the Rising Asian Talent stand.
