We need to talk about Crystal Jade Kitchen Holland Village’s new menu
The wait is finally over.
Two months is a long time to go without our favorite dim sum and Cantonese classics, but we’re happy to tell you that Crystal Jade Kitchen in Holland Village has officially re-opened its doors (see you there). We’re not just talking about a new interior either—they’ve gone ahead and revamped their menu too.
The casual-dining restaurant now sports a breezy and bright new interior, fitted with light wood elements, contemporary light fixtures and fabulous new wall art that will definitely amp up the dining experience. The adjoining Crystal Jade My Bread Outlet also boasts a brighter and refreshed shop space, so whether you’re there for a dim sum breakfast or simply popping in for a mid-afternoon treat, you’ll be doing so in style.
Deep Fried Sesame Ball with Lava Salted Egg Yolk
Now about that new menu—you can thank recently appointed Group Executive Chef Martin Foo for the extensive repertoire of traditional-meets-novel Cantonese dishes. From dim sum to noodles and congee, to wok-fried delights and home-style classics, the new menu will eventually make its way across the island to all Crystal Jade Kitchens, so you won’t have to make the journey to the West every time you need your fix.
Signature dishes from their dim sum selection include Steamed Siew Mai with Truffle ($7.50 for 4pcs), a delightfully earthy combination of succulent minced pork, shitake mushrooms and truffle pate and oil, best paired with the nourishing Double-boiled Cordyceps Flowers & Peach Resin in Chicken Soup ($10.80).
Fried Brown Rice with Black Bean Dace Fish & Egg White
Of course, Cantonese cuisine is synonymous with roast meats, so opt for the new Flambeed Roasted Duck, flambeed tableside with a shot of vodka ($18.80-$58), or the Soya Sauce Chicken with Osmanthus ($14.80-$35) basted with a secret marinade—the osmanthus flowers lend a sweet and almost fruity flavor to the bird. Other highlights include new wok hei specialties like Fried Brown Rice with Black Bean Dace Fish & Egg White ($15.80). If noodles are more your thing, then definitely try the Canton Sweet & Spicy Minced Meat Noodles with Prawn ($9.80), Chef Foo’s take on Crystal Jade Kitchen’s popular Cantonese-style minced meat noodles.
Finally, get the sinfully good Deep-fried Sesame ball with Lava Salted Egg Yolk ($6.80 for 3pcs) that’ll end your meal on more than just a sweet note. The mochi-like crisp exterior juxtaposes with the molten, salted egg yolk filling for a dessert you’re bound to crave for in the days to come.
