Where to taste some of Bangkok's fanciest matcha ice cream
A year in the making, Peace Oriental Teahouse's new range of ice cream is rich in flavor, light in texture.
Tea master Teerachai Limpaitoon, of Ekkamai's Peace Teahouse, is playing around with temperatures again. After almost a year of development, the teahouse has rolled out a series of seriously good matcha ice cream, made in-house using all natural ingredients.
In keeping with the spirit of this zen teahouse, Teerachai serves each scoop of ice cream with house-candied Japanese chestnuts and your only utensils are a pair of chopsticks. There are two main styles of ice cream available—matcha ice cream and koicha cream (a scoop of milk ice cream on top of matcha, B45 extra)—both with three matcha grades to choose from at B190, B240 and B280. The result is rich in flavor yet light in texture.
We especially like the koicha cream option, for which you can choose to taste the milky ice cream on its own or dipped in matcha allowing both flavors the chance to shine. To pair with the ice cream, Teerachai suggests tea with toasty notes like hojicha, ye sheng cha or zhengyan rougui oolong tea, to lighten .
Stay tuned for hojicha ice cream, set to be launched next month.
