Papa don't preach: Our 2018 picks for Father’s Day feasts this June
Where to celebrate your poor neglected dad
Taking the time to celebrate Mum is great and all, but more than we’d like to admit it, a lot of the time we forget to lavish upon Daddy Dearest the same amount of effort and material gratitude. Could it be our socially conditioned conscious in a patriarchal society that’s led us to simply assume that fathers aren’t as sensitive and hence won’t appreciate our efforts? Or because our capitalist nation has chosen to profit over Mother’s Day so they can sell more flowers, chocolates and fancy dinners? Nah, it’s probably just because dads grunt so much.
Still, if you find yourself guilty of pampering Ma over Pa, make things right this year (Jun 17) and treat the best man in your life to a meal he didn't even see coming.
For the steak-loving Superman in your life
It’s four courses of hearty goodness at Lawry’s this Father’s Day weekend, with a $98 per person menu starring some time-honored classics. You’ll start with Chef Sherwin Sim’s special Spinning Bowl Salad and Truffle Mushroom Soup, before moving on to the main event—your choice of Lawry’s Signature Roasted Prime Rib of Beef – The Daddy’s Cut, Oven Baked Cajun Salmon with Ikura, or Black Angus Filet Mignon with US Idaho Mashed Potatoes. And because all dads always have extra room in their tums, finish off with a decadent truffle chocolate cake or apple crumble tart. 6836 3333, Jun 15-17
It’s no secret we’re fans of Japanese grill Wakanui, so obviously we’ll be bringing Dad to their Gentleman’s Cut Father’s Day Special. For $110 per person, you get a delectable four-course meal of baked oysters, Obsiblue prawn, and the Ocean Beef Ribeye—just another premium cut in Wakanui’s stellar line-up of New Zealand meats. There’s also Salt Milk Ice Cream, and wine pairings are available for a top-up fee of $40 each. 6384 2665, Jun 11-16
A Father’s Day meal at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse was meant to be, considering how the New York steakhouse was set up by father-son duo Wolfgang and Peter Zweiner. Behind the dry-aged steaks is a warming story of how son eventually convinced father to open his own steakhouse, after a childhood shaped by visits to Peter Luger’s, where Wolfgang worked for over 40 years. Exclusively available on Jun 17, a whiskey-pairing menu will treat Dad and you to the Zweiners’ pick of the finest Macallan pours, and your choice of USDA Prime beef in New York Sirloin or Ribeye. $280 per person. 6887 5885, Jun 17
For the man whose alcohol tolerance can put yours to shame

Some father-child relationships are built on knocking back a pint with Pops, and if you fancy yourself one of them—head to Andaz Singapore. While you’re there, sink your teeth into anything on their regular menu, from Peruvian ceviche to lamb empanadas and tender ribeye, for that saucy Latin touch to your dad-approved beer binge. 62538182, Jun 17
