Cowboys and Italians: Tras Street's newest restaurant does an unlikely combo
Think comforting Italian dishes with a Wild West twist.
Tras Street has seen an invasion by restaurants and cocktail bars like Fleur de Sel, Brasserie Gavroche, Jekyll & Hyde and House of Dandy. The newest arrival to the stretch, which once used to be littered with photo studios and bridal shops, is Buttero, a casual Italian eatery with an all-American cowboy, dude ranch feel. (Buttero means "cowboy" in Italian, though that only goes so far in explaining the blend of countries going on here).
On the menu are legit, housemade pastas like papperdelle with spanner crab ($25) and light-as-air gnocchi with brussels sprouts ($21). Portions are generous, so don't go trying to tackle their hearty porchetta with braised beans ($32) on your own.
There are some down-home American dishes, too, like pulled pork waffle fries ($19) on your own. But it's hard to ask too many questions when the most expensive thing on the menu is $34.
