When WTF’s sister space across the alley, Opposite, was still in the brainstorming stages, we were very impressed to learn that the proprietors aimed to have a space dedicated to pop-up restaurants. But truth be told, we were skeptical—it seemed a bit too cool, too New York to be true.

We’re happy to report, then, that our fears have been allayed, and Opposite’s first pop-up restaurant night is officially slated, and by the time you read this, chances are that all but a few of the tickets will have already been taken off the market.

On Jun 17, Soul Food Mahanakorn’s Jarrett Wrisley will join forces with Zudrangma Records and corporate sponsors Electrolux to bring you an interactive Isaan picnic. You will don an Isaan kerchief, mix your own booze in steel cups and even mix some of your own food, all to be enjoyed on a traditional floor mat and against musical accompaniment provided by a morlam band playing saxophone, phin, khaen and more.

As for the menu, there will be crispy grasshoppers, Soul Food’s Isaan sausages, grilled chicken, papaya salad, among other dishes. Booze will include local beers and cocktails mixed with rice spirit.

The entry is B1,000 per person, inclusive of a free Zudrangma CD. The event starts from 7:30pm onwards at Opposite (27/1 Sukhumvit Soi 51). Tickets can be purchased at WTF (02-662-6246) and at Soul Food Mahanakorn (02-714-7708).
