Fatty noodles go down very well with a shot of stiff rice wine.

Popular ramen chain, Ippudo, has just opened a new outlet. Located in the newly-revamped Shaw Centre, this ramen joint focuses on sake.

Bar Ippudo stocks some 70 bottles from over 20 different Japanese sake breweries. It's meant to showcase the diversity of Japanese sake, from junmai daiginjo to junmai varieties. Slurp-worthy Hakata-style ramen aside, the minimalist 12-seater bar whips up tons of Japanese bar bites, or otsumami, too.

Everything is meant to pair with sakes, so you'll find small dishes of yaki miso, Oriental pickled celery, shoyu cream cheese and the much-loved clear soup, oden that's loaded with white radish and boiled eggs. The space is modern but zen, so you can tuck into piping hot bowls of noodles or mingle at the communal bar. Plus, you can buy your sake to-go as well.
