We put seven contenders to a blind taste test to see who delivers the soft and fluffy goodness.

1. Custard Nakamura (B25)

Addictive and not overly sweet, while the texture is dense and cheesy. Some felt it has a slightly artificial taste.
Verdict: A little industrial.

Sukhumvit soi 33/1, BTS Prompong. 02-259-9630

2. Miki Ojisan (B50)

The texture is so good: chewy, fluffy, smooth and sponge-like. There’s a heavy aroma of cheese, but it’s a bit salty.
Verdict: Impressive for the price.

Try 7/F, CentralWorld, Rama 1 Rd., Pathumwan, BTS Chidlom/Siam, 02-660-9100

3. Bread Talk (B260)

Texture-wise, similar to Miki Ojisan, but sweeter and a bit more crumbly. A good balance between flour and cheese.
Verdict: A decent, easy-to-find option.

Try G/F, Siam Paragon, Rama 1 Rd., Pathumwan, BTS Siam. 02-610-7588

4. Gute (B250)

Soggy, creamy and a bit sour with a smell of orange peel. Clear separation between the cheese and flour.
Verdict: Not so Gute.

Try BTS Ekamai exit 3-4. 02-714-0024

5. Chez Recamier (B34)

This isn’t cheesecake! Artificial smelling, rough texture, super-sweet… this tastes like ice cream in bread form.
Verdict: Best avoided.

Try G/F, Siam Paragon, Rama 1 Rd., Pathumwan, BTS Siam.

6. Flour Shoppe (B95)

Burnt crust and a loose texture that suggests it’s been overcooked. It’s like a butter cake with added salt and a certain sourness.
Verdict: Even a bite is too much!

Try 1st Floor, Tops supermarket, Central Chidlom, Ploenchit Rd., Pathumwan. BTS Siam. 02-655-7648-0

7. Uncle Tetsu (B250)

The mushy and soft texture is heavenly goodness. But the taste was a bit too bland for some, more egg-y than cheesy.
Verdict: Everyone adores it, a clear winner.

G/F, Siam Paragon, Rama 1 Rd., Pathumwan. BTS Siam. 02-235-2221
