Hellos and goodbyes on Ann Siang Hill
Little India and Geylang may be getting alcohol restrictions, but turnover is alive and well on this party street. This time, say hello to street food and locally-inspired cocktails.
Although the bar started off with a pretty cool gathering place for PR folk, journalists and insiders, Scoop and its worryingly purple Zombie are no more. The space has been taken over by former House of Dandy bartender, Zac Mirza.
Now called Tapow, the space is also cozier with low-lying couches and a lived-in look. Expect reinterpreted local flavors like beef rendang in naan, pizza with ayam penyet and tiffins full of Thai curry, spring rolls and Peranakan prawn sambal petai. Mirza says drinks are equally Singlish, with ingredients like kaffir lime and curry leaves. It's not a groundbreaking concept, but we trust the man.
Plus, Fridays will see the Kilowatt Soundsystem crew spinning catchy beats.
