Just a few of the things you might have missed this weekend

1. Over the weekend, the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) announced its lineup of international and regional celebrities set to walk the festival red carpet. Expect to see world-renowned auteur John Woo, French superstar Juliette Binoche and Chinese actresses Zhang Ziyi and Cheng Pei Pei. The Singapore International Film Festival runs from Dec 4-14. More info here and check out our list of six festival films you can't miss.

2. Sunday saw the opening of a brand new MRT station, The Marina South Pier MRT. The new station will serve the Marina South Pier and the Marina Bay Cruise Centre, although there’s not much else in the area to warrant a visit (yet). Trains are set to arrive at the new MRT every 8-12 minutes in peak hours and every 15 minutes during off-peak hours.

3. The Ultimate Hawker Festival was back with a vengeance this weekend. Held at Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre Halls on Saturday, the event celebrated Singapore’s hawker heritage with three themed zones—Ultimate Original Recipe (with old favorite stalls that have been around for generations), Ultimate Pursuit of Happiness (dedicated to young people who have changed careers to work in food) and Ultimate Ingredients (which featured hawkers using brand new ingredients in traditional recipes).

4. Cyclists can now park their bikes and rest easy, with secure locking stations installed in nine new locations over the weekend. The new bicycle bays are designed to deter bike theft by allowing the cyclist to securely lock the bike frame and both wheels to the station. Now if only we got more bike lanes.

5. After lots of anticipation leading up to the AFF Susuki Cup, The Singapore Lions’ had a crushing defeat in their first match at the National Stadium. The Singapore team lost out 1-2 to Thailand with Singapore goalkeeper Hassan Sunny missing a Thai goal in the final minutes of the game. Singapore’s next game is on Dec 26 against Myanmar at the National Stadium.
