The second phase of development at Suvarnabhumi Airport will go ahead according to plan despite the current political instability.

Airport Authority of Thailand president Makin Petplai today confirmed it will stick to the project management contract signed with EPM Consortium in 2012.  

According its second phase of expansion, Suvarnabhumi Airport will welcome a new terminal in 2017, which will see its capacity increase to 60 million passengers a year from the current capacity of 45 million passengers per year.    

Once the second phase is completed, the airport will also have more facilities including a concourse, 28 aprons, parking buildings, a tunnel and connection with Bangkok’s mass transport systems. The investment will cost B62 billion.

With increasing numbers of visitors to Thailand each year, five development phases have been outlined that will enable Suvarnibhumi Airport it to ultimately take up to 120 million passengers per day with a total of four runways.
