Today marks the final round of bouts at the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium on Rama IV Road as it relocates to a newer bigger stadium.

Operated by Royal Thai Army, the stadium opened back in 1956. With the aim of expanding its operations and escaping the heavy traffic of downtown Bangkok, the decision was made to relocate the stadium to Ramintra Road.

After 57 years, the bell will ring on the ramshackle but intensely atmospheric stadium with one final round of fights from 6-11pm today featuring some of the leading muay Thai boxers such as Petboonchu Borplaboonchu and Seanchai PK Saenchaimuaythaigym.

The event is open to the public with tickets available at B400, B600 and B4,000 per person for Thai nationals and B2,500, 3,500 and B4,000 per person for foreigners.

Set on over 3,000 rai of land, the new stadium (6 Ramintra Road, Anusawaree, Bang Khen) offers 3,500 seats and 300 parking lots.

Scheduled to officially open its doors for a first fight on February 11, the new stadium is equipped with a large LED screen, air con, and facilities like meeting rooms, a museum and restaurants. For more information, visit www.muaythailumpinee.net
