Baht for the Band: The Standards Need Your Help to Get to SXSW
Bangkok Brit-rock staples The Standards have launched a fundraising campaign to help them chase fame and fortune in the USA.

Hot on the heels of releasing their second album, Sirens, late last year, the band will head to Austin, Texas, in mid-March for the illustrious South by Southwest (SXSW) festival.
There they will play a week of gigs where they hope to “get noticed by the big wigs, get a record contract out of it and become super famous.”
In order to cover their costs and realize their dreams, the band have launched a Kickstarter campaign (here), calling for pledges from fans and well-wishers.
They've set a goal of raising £2,500 (about B134,000)—and there's plenty in it for you, too.
Depending on how generous you're feeling, the rewards range from a shout-out on social media and a handwritten postcard from Texas to a place on the guestlist for any The Standards' gig for the next five years (note: these guys play a lot), a ton of free merch and a spot in the band's next MV.
If you still need convincing, we briefly caught up with the band's enigmatic frontman, Matt.
What do you hope to get out of the trip?
SXSW is THE festival where A&R men, label representatives and management go to look at new and emerging talent. Aside from playing one of the biggest music festivals in the world, this is our ultimate goal.
Why should we shell out our hard-earned cash to get you over there?
You'd simply be making a dream come true for an extremely hard-working band. Plus, there is a reward scheme so you get something back for being awesome.
What will you be telling everyone over there about the Bangkok music scene?
That it's thriving! I'm going to try and recruit as many new bands as I can to come and play for Popscene.
What else is coming up for The Standards/Popscene/assorted side projects?
The Standards' main focus right now is SXSW plus a couple of warm-up shows within the next month before we go. Popscene has a few things lined up, too, but I'm just waiting on confirmation. Hopefully some acts coming through late March/early April
