Moose Bangkok is all about pop-up events at the moment, from welcoming Siam Secret Service last month to now teaming up with DJ Maft Sai to bring in Swiss DJ Jerome Doudet, better known as The Dude of Stratosphear, for a special set on Jan 11. BK had a quick chat with the crate-digging DJ after he performed at CAMA Club in Hanoi, Vietnam, last week (Jan 4).

You’ve toured many cities in Southeast Asia; what do you see in the music scene here that's different from other parts of the world?
For me, music is a global language, so no major differences. I just like the fact than when I play more roots-y Asian music like molam or old Vietnamese blues, people here often cheer at me and look surprised that a farang digs their sounds.

Where in SEA has the most happening music scene in your opinion?
I love Bangkok! But there are many other places in S.E.A. I don't know yet and wish to visit.

How have things evolved over the past five years?
Pretty good! Meeting new people always leads me to new experiences, and this pushes me to dig deeper into my record box.

Any great experiences you can share?
Maybe to have the privilege to see Isan legend Dao Bandon perform at a Paradise Bangkok party. He’s one of my favorite molam artists.

What have you been listening to in your free time lately?
I listen to a lot of different music. I just bought a Vietnamese one-sting instrument called dan bau, so I am listening to some traditional and experimental music made with it.

Where next after the gig in Bangkok this Saturday?
Back to Switzerland for more gigs, but The Dude will be back soon!
