I-S checked out a slew of new openings (and new menus)—from Bacchanalia to Pasarbella to Violet Oon's Kitchen and Tampopo.
Bacchanalia
"Founded by Alex Chew and Raj Datwani—who made a name for themselves hosting raucous pop up meals as part of the Bacchanalia Brunch Series—and housed in the historic Masonic Club building, the place has lots of potential. Perhaps we just didn’t come at the right time. The brunch parties still seem to be where it’s at for a full experience."
Pasarbella
"It would be easy to discount the project. Though it sells itself as a farmer’s market, there’s no local produce in sight. Instead, there are prepared food stalls—around 30 of them in total—offering everything from savory meals (think paella and rotisserie chicken) to craft beers and wine from boutique wineries."
Violet Oon's Kitchen & Tampopo
"Nothing beats the excitement of a new restaurant opening. The only catch is that you always run the risk of having a so-so meal. Not so at established names that put out fresh menus: You already know the place is good, but still get some novelty out of the deal. Two well-known names that have just updated their offerings include casual Japanese restaurant Tampopo and Peranakan celeb chef project Violet Oon’s Kitchen. "
