West of the Chao Phraya, the recently opened Wife’s Restaurant (Tung Mangkon Soi 10, Taling Chan, Bangkok, 02-884-0768) is a casual, wood-dominated space, filled with rows of unadorned tables and a long service counter. Named in reference to owner Saipet Laohasukpaisal and her supportive husband, they do straightforward Thai and Western cuisine, with some fusion dishes thrown in. Customer favorites so far include kanom jeen nam ya poo (rice vermicelli with crab curry, B125), pla kapong tod samoon prai (deep-fried sea bass with herbs, B165) and grilled Australian beef in olive oil (B245).
