If you’re sick of the Bangkok art scene, a quick drive to Ratchaburi may prove a breath of fresh air. With an aim to make the town a stronghold for contemporary art, Silpathorn ceramic artist Wasinburee Supanichvoraparch has spent eight years revamping the old wooden building his dad bought in 2003 into Ratchaburi’s very first contemporary art gallery, D Kunst (323 Woradej Rd., next to National Museum Ratchaburi, Mueng, Ratchaburi, www.facebook.com/THT.dKunst. Open Wed-Sun 10am-7pm). Wasinburee has preserved most of the details of the century-old building while adding new touches (steel, raw cement, vivid colors). The second and third floors house a café and an exhibition space currently featuring ceramic installations. The building itself was recently recognized as one of the best renovated buildings in 2011 by the Association of Siam Architects.
