Formerly a pastry chef in New York, Tim Butler spent his recent years floating around some very ill-fitting kitchens in this town. It was kind of heart-breaking, given the glimpses we’d had of his talent. Finally, he’s working in a place we’ve always really liked, Eat Me (Soi Pipat 2, Convent Rd., 02-238 0931), without ever being huge fans of their food. Tim has been rolling out a new menu there over the past couple of months. While Eat Me’s previous lineup seemed to try a little too hard to be creative, Butler brings discreet tweaks to products that speaks for themselves. For example, what looks like a simple tomato salad with stellar heritage vegetables from the Royal Projects is spruced up by a spoonful of olive oil ice-cream (B250). Yes, it’s amazingly simple. No, you can’t make it at home. Isn’t that what good restaurants should be about?
